Belt up!
How rude, I hear you mutter, but I mean that in a good way. In this article I’ve decided to let you into a little secret. Belts maketh the outfit, almost every time. I have clients who tell me they can’t wear belts because of their tummy or their hips or lack of waist…well I can dissolve all those body hang-ups in the same way a Malteser dissolves in your mouth…if it’s given the chance!
Belts worn in the right way disguise that tummy, give you hip detail AND cinch in that waist. Of course, your body shape and personality will determine where you should wear it and how wide it should be. Should your buckle be small, medium or large scale? Should it twinkle with sparkles or be a more classic design? From bows to scull and cross bones, a belt will suit you. I promise. For instance, if you have a short body, and by that I mean that there isn’t much distance from beneath your bust to your waist, you won’t want to make that look any shorter, so avoid wide belts that sit high on the waist. There are other tips but I really need to see you to give you the best advice.
In the meantime, something so simple as a beautifully crafted belt in the perfect colour and style for you will change any outfit from frumpy to scrumpy in seconds. Allow me to introduce you to Once Upon a Belt. Marta founded this company and works with House of Colour to bring our clients fabulous belts in all shapes, sizes and colours. She even explains on her website how to measure yourself to get the perfect size.
Marta says, “We have something for everyone with our interchangeable range, from skinny belts to wide belts. We are expanding our range to have more colours available in 9cm wide belts, which plus size ladies favour. For Christmas we are introducing reversible scarf belts in two widths that come with leather ties or you can use your own scarf to tie them up.”
How perfect is that? You could add one to your Christmas list or give belts as presents this year. How great to receive a belt rather than socks!
